Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

John 14:1

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me."

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
This verse contains three vital truths everyone needs to understand. The most basic of truths contained in this verse is the necessity of believing in God. In a world where many are turning to atheism, believing in God can sometimes make a person seem radical.

Here are three important points to believing in God:

  • Belief in God must include belief in both Beings that make up the God family. In this verse, Christ tells us that we must believe in God (the Father) and Him (the Son) (see also John 14:10-11; 17:21).
  • Belief is not the be-all and end-all of Christianity. After all, the Bible tells us that even demons believe in God (James 2:19). Belief must lead to obedience (1 John 2:3-4).
  • Belief is more than the mere acknowledging of God’s existence. Christians must also have “belief in the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:13). The truth is defined as the entire package of doctrine (teaching) that is revealed in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16).

This verse also tells us that true belief will lead to peace of mind (see also John 14:27).
