3 Days and 3 Nights

3 Days and 3 Nights

This learning activity is for teaching the meaning and understanding of the three days and three nights spoken about by Jesus Christ in Matthew 12. You may wish to read through Matthew 12:38-40 as you begin this activity.

When asked for a sign as proof that He was the Messiah, Jesus responded that the only sign He would give was that He would be “three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:40). Jesus predicted His own death and the timing of His resurrection: He would be entombed for a literal three days and three nights—72 hours—giving proof that He is the Savior.

When completing this activity, your children will create a timeline of those 72 hours in a simple book format. This resource places the timing of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection in A.D. 31 at the beginning of the spring holy days, based on the events recorded in the gospel accounts.
